Imagine a tall laundry bag full of clothes (washed or unwashed, I’ll leave that to your imagination :P).
You’re searching for something to wear. If you’re lucky, you might find it right at the top. But when you want the perfect one, the piece that fits your mood…you start digging. You pull clothes from the bottom, toss some aside, create a little chaos, and keep going until you finally find what you’re looking for.
Now picture this: instead of digging, you simply pour the entire pile onto the floor. Suddenly, everything is in front of you. You can see it all, what to wear, what to fold, what to keep aside, and what to put back in order. There’s clarity in that mess. You don’t have to guess; you just have to see.
That’s exactly what journaling feels like.
Inside our minds, thoughts often stack up like clothes in that laundry bag…ideas, emotions, worries, to-do lists, dreams, doubts…all tangled together. We dig and dig, trying to make sense of it all, hoping to find that one clear thought or direction. But until we pour it all out…onto paper, into words, we don’t really know what we’re dealing with.
When I journal, I’m not just writing. I’m emptying. I’m taking every scattered thought, emotion, or idea and laying it out where I can see it. Some thoughts are important and worth working on. Others are just noise, ready to be folded away or released. Journaling gives me that choice. It helps me prioritize what deserves my energy and what I can gently let go of.
This simple act of writing every day gives me clarity on what to work on, what to feel, and what to release. It’s like checking in with my own mind, understanding what’s real and what’s simply passing through.
And it’s not a one-day ritual. Our minds are constantly consuming, processing, and reacting to thousands of thoughts daily. Journaling is my way of keeping things clean, clear, and conscious. It keeps me from feeling overwhelmed and helps me stay consistent with what truly matters.
Because the truth is, until we empty our bag, we never really know what’s inside!
